  • Tea towel
  • Assorted fabric scraps
  • 8” x 10” piece of fusible web
  • Coordinating threads
  • Free-Motion Open Toe quilting foot
  • Pressing cloth*
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Template (provided on last page of instructions)*optional but helpful

  • (1) 2” x 5 1/2” rectangle, white fabric
  • (1) 2” x 5 1/2” rectangle, black fabric
  • (1) 2” x 5 1/2” rectangle, fusible web
  • (1) 2 1/2” x width of tea towel, plus 1 inch, orange fabric

  1. Using the template provided, trace the shapes onto the paper side of the fusible web. Cut apart and apply the shapes to the wrong side of color fabric scraps. Cut out the appliqué shapes along the pattern lines and remove the paper backing.
  2. Fold the tea towel in half both ways and lightly crease to folds. Referring to the photo and placement diagram, place the ghost in the center about 2” up from edge. Arrange the bats, eyes and mouth per placement diagram. Fuse in place per manufacturer instructions on fusible web package.
  3. Stitch all around each appliqué shape with the Free-Motion Open Toe quilting foot.
  4. Fold and press the short ends of the orange fabric to match the width of the tea towel. Place the fabric wrong side down, on the backside of towel above hem and stitch into place. Turn and press the orange fabric over the towel hem onto the front side of towel. Pin in position and stitch in place with decorative stitch.
  5. Using the Character Decorative Stitches on your Baby Lock machine, type “it’s a boo-ti-ful life” in the small font size. Stitch on white 2” x 5 1/2” rectangle. Trim away any connecting threads and apply fusible web to the wrong side of fabric. Trim down to 1” x 4 3/4”.
  6. Remove paper backing from white rectangle, fuse in center of black fabric rectangle and position directly on towel. Stitch all around white rectangle with zigzag or decorative stitching.
