Bow ties are timeless and super-easy to sew! Create several in only 30 minutes and wrap them up for a great Father’s Day gift that’s handmade and heartfelt. Then make one for the little man in his life! Click here to download instructions.

Materials:

  • all-purpose thread to match fabrics
  • 7 inches of 45”-width fabric
  • 4” x 40” piece of lightweight fusible interfacing

Tools:

Steps:

  1. You’ll need to know your man’s neck measurement.

    1. After printing the free pattern cut out your pieces and shorten the neckband piece to half of his neck measurement.

    2. Tape piece 1 to piece 2 at the dashed line.

  2. Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric aligning the long side of the interfacing to one of the long sides of the fabric. Cut 2 on the fold.

  3. Pin pretty sides together.

    1. Stitch around the entire perimeter with a ½” seam allowance leaving a 2” opening (For a bigger bow tie just use a ¼” seam allowance)

    2. Clip your corners and valleys. Then cut your curves down to a ¼” with pinking shears (or clip your curves).

    3. Turn right side out carefully pushing out the points as well as the curves on the bow tie. Press.

    4. Close the opening by stitching machine or by hand and you’re done!

  4. You’ll find the child-size bow tie (hook-and-loop closure) tutorial here: http://totallystitchin.net/articles/free-bow-tie-pattern
