Tools:
- Baby Lock sewing machine
Steps:
-
Using the circle cutter and mat cut 2” circle from all three green color fabrics. You will need approximately 120 circles (40 from each color).
-
Cut two 14” squares from the red flannel for the pillow front and back.
-
From the brown fabric cut a shape for the tree trunk approximately 3” wide by 2” tall.
-
Position the tree trunk on the pillow front and applique in place.
-
Measure and chalk an outline shape 6 ½” tall by 8” wide at the tree base for the tree circles to be positioned.
-
From the white fabric cut a small paisley shape and a tiny triangle for the beak.
-
Position the bird shape at the top of the chalk line tree and applique in place.
-
Select a straight stitch.
-
Fold each of the circles in half and then in half again then once more to create eighths.
-
Stitch catching the point of each folded circle and connecting the circles into a long trim alternating the colors randomly.
-
Stitch the circles to the pillow front within the chalked line. Fill in the shape by adding rows of folded circles.
-
If you have areas that appear to have gaps or missing circles fill them in by gluing additional circles between the stitched rows using fabric glue. Let the glue dry.
-
Sew the button in place for the bird eye.
-
Pin the pillow front to back. The pillow front will have to be shifted to align properly since the 3-D texture does not allow the pillow to lay flat when inside out so pinning is necessary.
-
Once the front is pinned stitch together using a ½” seam allowance and leaving an opening in the lower edge of the pillow.
-
-
Turn the pillow right side out and insert the pillow form
-
Hand-stitch the opening in the pillow closed.
