- Rotary cutter and mat
- Basic sewing supplies
Tools:
- Baby Lock sewing machine
Steps:
-
From each of the fat quarters do the following:
-
Cut one 5 inch x 7.5 inch section.
-
From the stabilizer cut one section measuring 5 inches x 7.5 inches for the interfacing.
-
-
Fuse the stabilizer to the wrong side of the exterior section.
-
With the machine set up for sewing sew a ¼-inch seam allowance along the long edges to piece the units together.
-
Open the seams and press flat.
-
Fuse the stabilizer to the backside of the unit.
-
Trim the section to 5 inches x 7.5 inches.
-
To create the flap on the envelope take the inside rectangular section and the exterior sections and mark 1.5 inches from each of the corners on the short side.
-
Line up the ruler positioned on the two marks and cut at a diagonal to remove the corner. Repeat for the opposite corner.
-
With the right sides together pin both sections together.
-
Stitch around the outer edge leaving a 3-inch opening on one of the sides for turning. Clip the corners and turn right side out. Press well.
-
Top-stitch 1/8 inch from the edge around the entire envelope section. This will close the opening.
-
Place the section with the pieced side face-down on a flat surface.
-
Fold the bottom edge of the section 2.5 inches upward over itself to form the pocket. Pin the section in place. Top stitch along both sides to form the envelope.
-
Fold the top flap over the envelope and press in place.
-
Insert the gift day card and give to mom on her special day.
