Sergers were made for garments and costumes! Create this beautiful fairy ballerina dress for your little one and she'll be the belle of the ball! The wide work area on Baby Lock sergers is perfect for cover stitching, and the decorative wave stitch allows you to easily create the outfit she has dreamed about.
Cut the pattern tissue apart and locate the pieces for the dress, view A vest and View D skirt.
For the dress, cut pieces 1, 2 and 3.
Thread the Ovation serger for a 4-thread stitch. Serge the seams together following the pattern instruction guide sheet.
Switch the ovation to a narrow cover stitch to topstitch the top of the dress and the hem.
For the straps attach the straps to the front of the dress as directed. For the back of the dress, use a hand needle to add snaps to the inside of the dress and to the end of each of the snap
For the vest, cut pieces 4, 5, 6 and 7
Thread your Baby Lock serger for a 4-thread stitch.
Instead of serge the seams together as the directions indicate. Work with each layer separately.

Repeat the process on the vest lining pieces by serging them together at the shoulder seams, sides and waist.
Thread your Baby Lock serger for a wide cover stitch.
With wrong sides facing match the vest fabric and the vest lining together, pinning at the centers and seams of pieces to hold the pieces together.
Locate the center back waist, slide the elastic between the layers and cover stitch the elastic at the center back stretching the elastic so it gathers the center back.
This will help the waist be more fitted.
Thread your Baby Lock serger for a wave stitch using decorative serger thread such as Madeira Glamour in the upper and lower loopers.
Serge the outer edge of the vest using a wave stitch to trim and finish the edges.
Serge finish the armholes with the decorative wave stitch also
Use the hand needle to sew a hook and eye at the waist to hold the vest closed.
Optional: Fold a strip (approximately 3” x 15”) of light pink satin remnants in half lengthwise
Serge the raw edges with the wave stitch. Gather the folded edge, wrapping it into a circle to form a rose. Attach this rose at the waistline closure.
For the skirt, cut pieces 12, 13, and 14.
Thread the Ovation serger for a 3-thread rolled hem stitch.
Work with each layer separately, roll hem the seams together.
Stack the layers as directed by the pattern instructions.
Roll hem all the top edges together to connect all the layers.
Roll hem the edges of the elastic together to form a circle of elastic.
Thread the hand needle and run a gathering thread through all layers of tulle ½” down from the rolled hem edge.
