Who wouldn’t want to cuddle up with this soft and cozy blanket? Make this snuggly throw for your little one, a baby shower gift or for yourself. This simple blanket will come together in a snap, and pairs perfectly with the Plush Pillow project! Both can be made with your new Baby Lock Zeal sewing machine. Blanket Size: Approximately 50” x 56”. Download printable instructions.

Materials:

  • 5 - 10” Cuddle® Strips in colors of your choice from Shannon Fabrics or you can cut the strips from five different print fabrics (if using a different, not pre-cut fabric, cut to 56”)
  • 1 ½ Yards of white Cuddle Fabric from Shannon Fabrics for backing
  • Madeira® Cotona thread for sewing
  • Walking Foot
  • Wonder Clips
  • Basic sewing supplies

Tools:

  • Baby Lock® Zeal sewing machine

Steps:

  1. With right sides together, use the Wonder Clips to clip the two of the strips together along the seam line.

    1. Place the clips very close together to hold the Cuddle Strip sections together during sewing

    2. Tip: Placing the clips very close together will help to hold the sections together so that the fabric does not shift during sewing.

  2. Set up the machine for straight stitch sewing:

    1. Set the length to 2.5.

    2. Use the left needle position.

    3. Thread the machine; top and bobbin with white Madeira Cotona thread.

    4. Attach the walking foot.

  3. Using a ½” seam allowance throughout, stitch the seam together. Remove the clips as you sew.

  4. Sew five strips together to form the top of the blanket.

  5. Measure the top of the blanket length and width. Write down this measurement.

  6. Cut a section from the white Cuddle fabric that has the same measurement.

  7. Clip the two sections together along the outer edges, with the clips positioned very close together.

  8. Using a ½” seam allowance, sew around the outer edge going a slow, even pace. Remove the wonder clips one by one. Leave a 6” opening for turning.

  9. Clip the corners and turn the blanket right side out.

  10. Hand stitch the opening closed.

  11. To finish the blanket, stitch-in-the-ditch along the vertical seam lines. This will quilt the two layers together.
