Pro-Stitcher Americana Wall Hanging

Turn your leftover fabric scraps into something special! This Americana-inspired wall hanging is a fun way to use up your stash while creating a patriotic piece of quilted art for your home.

• Blue Square – 15 ½” X 15 ½” 
• Red Strips – Cut 3 ½” X WOF 3 total pieces
• White Strips – Cut 3 ½” X WOF 2 total pieces and 1 piece 2 ½” by 15 ½”
• Backing – 2 3/4 yards (using 66”x23”) 
• Binding – Use leftover backing or 3 - 2 ½” strips
• Designs from Wasatch Quilts

• Quilting Threads – Red, White, Blue and 1 pre-wound white or cream bobbin

• Optional: Gold Metallic Thread for Eagle

1.        Start with one red strip, stitch 1 white strip on each side of red. 

2.        Repeat stitching 1 red strip to each of the white strips.  See image.

3.        Creating the stripe strip set, red, white, red, white, red, white and red. 

4.        Press all seams towards red fabric. 

5.        Stitch the white 2 ½” strip to one end of the strip set.

6.        Press towards the strips.

7.        Stitch 15 ½” square to the white strip at end of the strip set.

8.        Press seams towards blue fabric. 

9.        Designs are free downloadable from Wasatch Quilts.  Use link HERE below to get designs. Save to USB stick.

10.   Load on frame.  Quilt using the patterns provided by Wasatch Quilts.  

1. Use these instructions to make a center or offset strip on a QOV quilt. Donate one to your local QOV and share your talents with others. 

11.   Left to right on frame load quilt backing on frame right side down. 

12.   Load batting on backing fabric.  Using PS Channel locks baste together backing and batting.  

13.   Baste in place top edge, side edges and bottom of flag. 

14.   Baste along the one edge of the center white strip in strip set. 

15.   Click File, Design and open.

1. From the USB stick open the with project designs
   1. Click the Eagle Block Design
   2. Click Open
2. Click Area
   1. Move machine to one of the 4 corners of the blue square
   2. Setting margin for each corner ¼” from seam and 3/8” from raw edge
   3. Click multi-corner Area
   4. Repeat until you have clicked in each of the 4 corners of the blue square
3. Click Modify
   1. Click Skew
   2.  Click Border Skew on Sidebar
   3. Click Rotate
   4.  Rotate eagle with bottom of block at edge of white strip
   5. Click Baseline
4. Click Pro-Stitcher Tab
   1. Click Quilt
   2. Click Trace Area
   3. Click Baste or if you do not have a basting stitch put a water solvable bobbin in your machine
   4. Stitch the area to hold the fabric from shifting
      1. Click Run
      2. Verify setting
      3. Click Proceed
      4. Manage threads as you go
   5. Remove basting stitch and basting bobbin thread from machine.  
   6. Replace bobbin with your desired bobbin thread
   7. Trace Area only is active when you click on it
   8. Click on Run
   9. Stitch Eagle 
5. Stitching small white strip beside the eagle block
   1. 1. Click File tab
      2. Click Clear All
      3. Staring with a clean screen we are going to set the stripes
      4. Click File
         1. Click Design
         2. Click Open
         3. Open the designs from the USB stick
         4. Open ribbon border
      5. Click Area tab
         1. Move the machine to the first corner in stripe (any of the 4 corners can be the first corner)
         2. Click Multi Point
         3. Repeat setting multi point in each corner of the white strip
      6. Click Modify tab
         1. Click Skew
         2. Click Border Skew
      7. Click Repeat
         1. Click Horizontal + until you have your desired look
         2. Sample has 7 horizontal repeats
         3. Click Baseline
      8. Cropping a hole to add stars
         1. Click Area
         2. Set an Area in a stripe where you would like to add the stars
         3. Area should in random places about 2”X7”
         4. Click Modify
         5. Click Crop
         6. Click Inside
         7. Note: Do not click edges
      9. Click Pro-Stitcher
         1. Click run
         2. Click proceed
         3. Click Clear All 
   2. Repeat* adding as many stars as you desire
6. Starting with a clean screen we are going to set the white stripes
   1. Click File
      1. Click Design
      2. Click Open
      3. Open the designs from the USB stick
      4. Click the mini curve
   2. Set Area on white stripes
      1. *Click Area tab
      2. Move the machine to the first corner in stripe (any of the 4 corners can be the first corner)
      3. Click Multi Point
         1. Moving in a round either counterclockwise or clockwise set multi points along the stripe
         2. Setting more points is more accurate than less points
      4. Click Modify
         1. Click Skew
         2. Click Border Skew on Sidebar
   3. Click Pro-Stitcher tab
      1. Click Run (when Run is not able to be clicked be sure the Quilt tab has been selected)
      2. Verify settings
      3. Click proceed
   4. Repeat on the other white stripes
7. If you desire to change threads for the red stripes change at this time
8. Repeat * on red stripes

16.   Remove from frame

17.   Square up wall hanging 

18.   Bind using your favorite binding technique

This project would be great in the middle of a QOV quilt, hanging on the wall or a great runner for a patriot holiday.
