Getting Creative

Prep: To prepare your fabric for embroidery and sewing fuse Baby Lock Ultra Soft Fusible to the back of the fabrics. This will add body to your fabrics and make them much easier to embroider and sew on.

Stabilizer: I love using the Baby Lock Tear Away soft for open designs. It gives the design a lot of hold without the stiffness.

Instructions

Embroidery:

  1. Hoop the 8”x8” cotton fabric backed with the Baby Lock Ultra Soft Fusible and the Baby Lock Tear Away Soft Stabilizer. No need to mark your material as this will be stitched in the center and then cut down after the embroidery is complete.
  2. Thread the machine with embroidery thread and embroidery bobbin thread in the bobbin area.
  3. Attach the embroidery module to the machine. Turn on the machine. You will be on the embroidery Home Page. Select the Exclusives Key. Select the Freehand key. Select either Design 1 or Design 2 . Select Set .
  4. Select Edit End. Select Embroidery lower the foot and select the Start/Stop key.
  5. The design will now begin to stitch out. After the first color the machine will stop rethread the machine with color 2. Repeat for color 3.
  6. After the design is complete remove the hoop then the fabric from the hoop. Gently remove the tear away stabilizer from the back of the design do not remove the Baby Lock Ultra Soft Fusible.

Mending:

  1. Turn off machine and remove the embroidery module. Leave the accessory case to expose the free arm of the machine. Place the Jeans needle on the machine. Change the thread and bobbin to sewing thread.
  2. Turn the machine on attach the N Foot. Select the Hand-Look Quilting Stitch 1-27 from the Utility Menu.
  3. Trim the previously embroidered design to desired size or shape. Helpful Hint: Use pinking shears or a pinking blade to give the design a softer look.
  4. Audition the embroidered design and the scrap pieces on the jeans. Pin in place.
  5. Place the jeans over the free arm. Begin stitching ½” – 1” away from the scrap pieces. Stitch multiple lines to attach the fabrics. For the embroidery design don’t stitch through the embroidery design but just on the outside of the design to attach it to the jeans.
  6. Repeat process if you want to add more patches to the jeans.
