Materials:

  • Simplicity pattern # 1472 or similar style (View A and doll dress)
  • Follow pattern for fabric and notions (in the sample floral print fabric was selected)
  • Madeira® Cotona thread for sewing
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Single Fold Bias Tape

Tools:

  • Baby Lock® Jubilant sewing machine
  • Baby Lock Cut-Away Fusible Applique stabilizer

Steps:

  1. Read all of the directions on the Pattern Guide Sheet before you begin.

  2. Iron the pattern pieces to remove any fold lines or wrinkles. This will verify that the pieces will be cut to the correct size.

  3. Follow any added directions that are shown on each of the pattern pieces.

  4. Cut out each of the pieces for the little girl and doll dress (View A)

  5. The seam allowance is set for 5/8”

  6. To determine the 5/8” line on the machine measure outward 5/8” to the right of the needle. Remember that line.

    1. Guide the raw edges of the fabric along that line when sewing the seam. If you have a Seam Guide this would be a great time to use it.

  7. Set up the machine for sewing using the standard zig-zag foot (J).

  8. Follow Steps 1-6 on the Pattern Guide sheet. Before you continue sewing the appliquéd flowers will be added.

  9. Fussy cut out six flowers from the floral print fabric. These flowers should be medium to small in size. Cut the flowers maintaining the shape of the flower.

    1. If your fabric doesn’t have flowers cut out a six circles.

    2. Fuse the Baby Lock Cut-Away Fusible Applique stabilizer to the back on each of the flowers. Remove the paper from the stabilizer.

  10. Place the flowers on the bottom left front on both dresses. Reposition as desired.

  11. Using the bias tape cut six lengths for the stems of the flowers.

  12. With the machine set up for zig-zag sewing sew each of the bias tape sections to the dress fronts. In the sample the thread matched the bias tape but you can use any color that you desire.

  13. Place the flowers over the top of the bias tape.

  14. Set the machine up for a zig-zag stitch. Zig-zag around the flowers to secure to the dress front sections. Press in place.

  15. Continue to follow the Pattern Guide Sheet to complete both dresses.
