Supplies

Fabric Requirements & Cutting Instructions

WOF = width of fabric 42" usable width

  • Fabric A - cut (1) 7 ½" x 10" (Pumpkin 1)
  • Fabric B - cut (2) 7 ½" x 10" (Pumpkin 2)
  • Fabric C - cut (3) 3 ½ " x 1 ½ " (stem)
  • Fabric D - ¼ yard - Cut (3) 2 ½ " x WOF strips (outer border)
    • Subcut (2) 38 ½" x 2 ½"
    • Subcut (2) 12 ½" x 2 ½"
  • Background Fabric E - 1/3 yard
    • Cut (1) 1 ½" x WOF strip - subcut into (4) 1 ½" x 10"
    • Cut (2) 1 ½" x WOF strips - subcut into (2) 34 ½" x 1 ½" strips
    • Cut (1) 2 ½" x WOF strip - subcut into (12) 2 ½" x 2 ½" squares
    • Cut (1) 3 ½" x WOF strip - subcut into (6) 4 ¾" x 3 ½" strips
    • Cut (3) 1 ½" x 1 ½ " squares
  • Backing Fabric: ⅝ yard
  • Binding: Cut (3) 2 ½" x WOF strips

NOTE: All seam allowances are 1/4". To achieve the correct seam allowance use your Baby Lock 1/4" quilting foot. When stitching line up the raw edge of your fabric with the right side edge of the 1/4" foot and you will get an accurate seam allowance every time. Set your machine stitch length to 2.5. This will ensure your pieces are stitched securely.

Piecing Instructions

  1. Using the ruler and marking tool draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the back of each 2 ½" x 2 ½" background square. Repeat with each 1 ½" x 1 ½" background square.
  2. Place a 2 ½" x 2 ½" background square on one corner of Fabric A. 7 ½" x 10" rectangle.
  3. Stitch on the drawn line from corner to corner. Using the rotary cutter and ruler trim ¼" from the drawn line. Open and press toward background.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 by stitching a 2 ½" x 2 ½" square to all 4 corners of each Fabric A and B pieces.
  5. Place a 1 ½" x 1 ½" background square on the top half of a 1 ½" x 3 ½" Fabric C strip. Right sides together. The drawn line is facing up. Stitch on the drawn diagonal line. Using ruler and rotary cutter trim 1/4" from the stitching line. Open and press toward background. Repeat steps to make 3 stem units.
  6. Sew a 4 ¾" x 3 ½" background rectangle to the right and left sides of one stem unit. Press toward background. Repeat steps to make 3 stem blocks.
  7. Place the stem block made in No. 6 onto the pumpkin block right sides together. Make sure to center the stem in the middle of the pumpkin block. Stitch in place. Press toward stem unit. Repeat steps to make 3 pumpkin blocks.
  8. Sew a 10" x 1 ½" background sashing strip to the right side of each pumpkin block.
  9. Sew blocks together to form a row. Sew remaining 10" x 1 ½" sashing strip to left side of row.
  10. Sew the 34" x 1 ½" background strips to the top and bottom. This completes the inner border.
  11. Sew Fabric D 2 ½" x 12 ½" outer border strips to left and right sides.
  12. Sew Fabric D 2 ½" x 38 ½" outer border strips to top and bottom.
  13. Your table runner top is done. Baste quilt and bind in your desired method.
