Instructions:

1.  Spray baste batting to wrong side of backing fabric.

2.  With batting side facing up, mark the center front of your placemat.  Measure 9 inches from the long edge to center.  Place a mark on the top and bottom edge.

3.  Take (2) strips and place them right sides together – matching all sides.

4.  Using your center mark as a guide, place your first 2 strips vertically in the center of your placemat (wrong side of fabric facing batting).  Use a couple of pins to hold in place.

5.  Stitch ¼” along the right edge using your Baby Lock walking foot.  You are stitching through all the layers, backing, batting and strips.

6.  Open and press seam.

7.  We will be working on the right side of the placemat first.  Take your next 2 ½” piece and place it onto the strip on the right. Matching right sides together, pin in place and stitch ¼” down the right side.  Open.  Press.

8.  From this point, continue adding strips to the right side and pressing open.

9.  Once you have covered half of your placemat, rotate your placemat so the unfinished side is now on the right.

10.  Continue adding strips to the right of your placemat until it is fully covered.

11.  When you are done, flip your placemat to the back side.  Use a ruler and rotary cutter to trim away the extra fabric that is hanging over the edges.  Trim it even with the backing.

12.  Sew (2) 2 ½” by WOF strips together for your binding.  Bind in your preferred method.

You’re all done!
