  • 1 Yard of orange sea life outdoor print fabric
  • 1 Yard of solid orange outdoor fabric
  • 1 Yard of white cotton fabric for lining
  • Baby Lock Ultra Soft Stabilizer
  • 4 yds of 1” wide twill tape
  • Madeira® Cotona thread for sewing
  • Hook and loop tape
  • Basic sewing supplies



  1. From the fabrics cut the following sections:

    1. From the sea life print fabric cut two rectangles 21 ¼” x 8 ¾”.

    2. From the solid contrasting orange fabric cut two sections that measure 21 ¼” x 4” and four strips that measure 21 ¼” x 2 ¼” for the handles.

    3. From the Baby Lock Ultra Soft Stabilizer cut two pieces that measure 21” x 11 ½” and one 15 3/8” x 5 ¼” and two 21” x 2”.

    4. Cut two sections from the lining fabric that measure 21 ¼” x 12”and two sections that measure 15 ¾” x 5 ½” for the base.

  2. To make the handles fuse the 21” x 2” Ultra Soft Stabilizer sections to the two of the 21 ¼” x 2 ¼” orange sections.

    1. With right sides together pair each with the remaining two sections.

    2. Stitch both sections along the long edges using a 3/8” seam allowance. Turn right side out.

  3. Place each of the handles on one section of the main fabric 6” in from the outside edge.

    1. Place one of the 21 ¼” x 4” solid orange strips over the strips aligning the raw edges.

    2. Using a 3/8” seam allowance stitch along the edge stitching over the handle edges.

    3. Repeat for the back section of the bag.

  4. Press the seam towards the main fabric. Topstitch along the seam line catching in the folded seam holding it in place.

    1. Repeat for the back section.

    2. Topstitch the base on each of the handles close to the seam line to ensure that it is attached securely.

  5. On the wrong side on each of the two sections fuse the Ultra Soft Stabilizer.

  6. Cut four 10” lengths of cotton tape for the bottom towel straps. Place two of the straps 5 ½” in from the bottom sides.

  7. Fuse the 15 3/8” x 5 ¼” piece of fusible Ultra Soft Stabilizer to one of the 15 ¾” x 5 ½” base sections.

  8. Pin the base centered to the long front edge covering the twill tape straps. Using a 3/8” seam allowance begin and end 3/8” from each of the side edges.

  9. Stitch the other long edge of the base to the other main piece of fabric sandwiching the other twill tape to the back section.

    1. Stitch the corner seams.

    2. Clip the corners and turn right side out.

  10. Fuse the last piece of the Ultra Soft Stabilizer to the remaining base section and then join all of the lining sections.

    1. Stitch the two long edges of the base to the bottom edges of the front and back.

    2. Stitch the side seams.

    3. Stitch the corner seams.

  11. On the top edge of both the bag and lining sections fold inward ½” to the wrong side. Baste in place.

  12. Place the lining inside the bag and pin along the top edge. Stitch two lines of topstitching around the top edge of the bag.

  13. Stitch a 3 ½” long strip of hook and loop tape to the four sections of twill tape.

  14. The twill tape will hold your beach towel while you walk to and from the beach.
