Materials:

  • BLEC 50 Fairies
  • 1/2 Yard white cotton organdy
  • 1/2 Yard red plaid taffeta
  • 1/2 Yard white broadcloth
  • 1/2 Yard red piping
  • Madeira red cotton thread
  • Madeira red all-purpose thread
  • Madeira Rayon embroidery thread - red green & dark gray
  • White bobbin thread
  • Klasse Size 14 embroidery needle
  • Adhesive stabilizer

Tools:

  • Baby Lock Sewing and Embroidery Machine
  • Designer's Gallery / Tool packs - Size Works & Color Works

Steps:

  1. Open BLEC 50 in Designer's Gallery. Hold down the control key and select designs #29 #30 and #31. Open the designs in Color Works.

  2. Bring up each design separately and remove all of the color and stitches from each design except for the last gray.

    1. Select the color and put a checkmark in the REMOVE COLOR AND STITCHES box. Open the color palette and change the gray to red.

  3. Save each design as you work on it. Exit Color Works.

  4. Select the red fairy outline. Open Size Works. Increase the height to 6 inches. Save it and exit.

  5. Print a template for each design.

  6. Insert a USB into the USB drive. Hold down the control key and select the three new outline designs plus design #31.

    1. Right click the mouse button and left click on Save. Remove the USB and put it into the side of your machine.

  7. Set up your machine for embroidery.

  8. Trace a stocking pattern onto the organdy. (This will be your sewing line.) Tip: Do not cut out the stocking until after you have embroidered it.

  9. Lay the templates on the stocking for placement and mark the placement for each piece.

  10. Hoop the organdy and embroider the Christmas Fairy first. Because the organdy is stiff you do not need to use stabilizer.

  11. For the holly use Embroidery Edit. Select the design - Set - Rotate and/or Mirror Image the holly to the correct angle - End - Sewing then move the design to the placement marking.

  12. After you have embroidered each piece of holly touch Re Edit and Edit.

  13. Change the position of the holly or touch Embroidery Edit and repeat step 11. (I embroider the two larger pieces first.)

  14. Cut a bias strip from the plaid fabric measuring 5" x 8". Embroider the holly #31 in the top right corner.

    1. For placement measure 1 ¾” from the top of the bias piece and 1 ¾” from the right side and place a mark for the center of the holly.

    2. Hoop a piece of Adhesive stabilizer in the 4” x 4” hoop and press the bias strip onto the stabilizer. Embroider the holly and remove it from the stabilizer.

  15. To construct the stocking cut the stocking out of the organdy adding a 1/4" seam allowance.

  16. Use the organdy piece as a pattern and cut out one stocking piece from the broadcloth two pieces from the red taffeta and one piece from the red plaid fabric.

  17. Set up your machine for sewing.

  18. Attach the zipper foot. Set stitch width to 3.5. Thread with red all-purpose thread in the top and bobbin. Attach piping to the topside and bottom edge of the bias strip.

  19. On your cutting table place the embroidered stocking piece right side up on top of the broadcloth. Measure down 4 1/2" from the top of the stocking on both sides and draw a line from side

  20. With right sides together place the bias strip piping edge along this line and stitch through all three pieces.

(The right side and the top edge will be over the fairy's head.) Flip the bias piece up so that all of the top edges are aligned. Baste all of these pieces together.

  21. Thread your machine with Madeira cotton thread.

    1. Change the foot to the N foot. Select Character Decorative Stitch #6-141. Stitch a sprinkling of these stars above the fairy. Hold the reverse key at the end of each star to tie off.

  22. Thread your machine with red all-purpose thread and attach the J foot.

  23. Lay the front and lining piece flat. Do the same with the back and lining.

    1. Place the two pieces right sides together matching the seams. Stitch front and back together with a ¼” seam allowance leaving a 5" opening on one side of the lining for turning.

    2. Clip curves and trim seams. Turn right side out and stitch the lining closed. Press the front and back only not the lining.

  24. Push the lining to the inside and do a final pressing.

  25. Hang your stockings by the chimney with care!
