Hand Sewing Needle Keeper

Supplies + -

Supplies:

  • Baby Lock Altair 2 or Meridian 2 or Upgrade Kit 1 for Altair/Meridian
  • Built-In Crochet Designs
  • 5” X 14” Hoop
  • Fabric
    • Outer Fabric - Cut 14” X 9”
    • Lining Fabric -Cut 14” X 9”
    • ¼ yard Felt or Batting Scraps Cut to 6”X11”
    • Batting Scraps 14” X 9”
    • Binding – 1 Strips 2.5” by WOF
    • Ribbon for Closure ½” wide by 18”
  • For Crochet Embroidery Designs
    • 1 spool of Madeira Cotona 50 wt. Thread Note: (Choice of thread is very important with crochet designs)
    • 3 Bobbins wound with same thread
    • 80/12 embroidery needle
  • Baby Lock Dissolve Away Mesh Stabilizer
  • Walking Foot
  • Baby Lock Quilt Binding Foot
  • Thread to Match
  • Basic Sewing and Embroidery Supplies

Instructions:

Making Outside of Needle Keeper:

· Make a quilt sandwich with the outer fabric, batting and lining. 

· Using a walking for quilt the layers together as desired. 

· Press flat. 

· Trim to 12”X7” & set aside. 

Embroidery Crochet Elements:

· Set up machine for embroidery.

· Hoop 2 layers of Baby Lock Dissolve Away Mesh stabilizer.

· From the Embroidery menu, select the Second Tab of Designs.

· Choose Category 9 – Crochet Designs .  

· Select the design of choice and touch Set.

· Use the Edit Features to Rotate and Resize the design as desired. 

· Select the Pattern Repeat/Border Key and the Matrix Features to fill your hoop with Designs.     You can also Duplicate the designs to fill up your hoop.  Touch OK. 

· Touch Embroidery.  

· Select Monochromatic Option if stitching all in the same color.   

· Thread the machine with the Maderia Cotona 50 wt. and coordinating bobbin thread. 

· Place hoop with stabilizer on the machine and stitch out the designs.

· Once the embroidery is finished remove from hoop. 

· Cut away access stabilizer. 

· Wash with soap and hot water. 

· Let dry. 

Finishing Needle Keeper Outside:

· On the outside of needle keeper pin ribbon centered on short side with raw edge to raw edge. 

· Using a zig zag stitch, secure in place. 

· Press binding strip in ½ lengthwise.

· Pin ribbon to the outside of needle keeper to prevent stitching with binding. 

· Stitch binding to lining side of needle keeper. 

· Using the Quilt Binding Foot tops stitch in place. 

Adding the Crochet Elements to Needle Keeper:

· Position elements on the outside of the keeper. 

· Set machine with matching thread top and bobbin for small zig zag stitch 

· Tack elements in place on all 4 sides. 

Adding Center Pages for Needles:

· Layer 3 pieces of felt/batting centered in needle keeper

· Using matching thread for top and lining thread machine.

· Select triple straight stitch on machine. 

· Stitch down center of needle keep and felt/batting.

Time to fill the keeper with hand sewing needles and you will be ready for stitching!
