Some of us still have Christmas sewing to do, and this cozy project from Melissa of Melly Sews makes the perfect last minute gift!

Totally Stitchin': Toasty Toes Project

When a heating pad just won't cut it because it doesn't warm both sides of both feet, these slipper-style foot warmers will do the trick. Filled with removable and microwaveable rice bags, they'll keep your toes toasty every time.

Supplies:

  • Fleece fabric (for outer part of warmers; see chart for sizing)
  • Cotton fabric (for rice bags)
  • 4 7" zippers
  • Zipper foot
Shoe Size
Bottom pieces - Cut 4,
7 inches wide and length from table
Top pieces - Cut 4

Women’s 5-7 10” 7”
Women’s 8-10, Men’s 6-8 12-1/2” 9”
Men’s 8-10 13” 9-½"
Men’s 10-12 13-1/2" 10”
Men’s 13-15 14” 10-1/2"

For rice bags, cut same number of fabric pieces 1" shorter in length and width than the outer pieces in the chart.

Steps:

  1. Place a fleece piece right sides together with the zipper, matching the short edge and centering the zipper. Stitch using a zipper foot, 1/4" from the raw edge.

  1. Place the second piece of fleece in the samesize against the other side of the zipper, and stitch. You should now have a zipper centered between two pieces of fleece.

  1. Repeat steps 1-2 with the other pieces of fleece until you have 2 long and 2 short fleece pockets.

  1. Lay one of the longer pockets flat, right side up. Fold one of the short pockets in half, wrong sides together, with the zipper at the top edge. Halfway unzip both zippers. Match up the bottom edges of the shorter pocket with the bottom edge of the longer pocket. Make sure the zipper teeth are pinched toward the top.
