LetterWorks III Christening Blanket

Wrap-up your bundle of joy for their special occasion in this soft and cuddly christening blanket created by you using Designer's Gallery LetterWorks III. Personalize with your baby's name and baptismal date. Download printable instructions.

Materials:

  • Purchased white fleece blanket
  • 3/8″ Grosgrain ribbon (baby blue)
  • Baby Lock Hydro-Melt stabilizer
  • Edge joining foot
  • Temporary spray adhesive
  • Embroidery thread (baby blue)
  • General sewing and embroidery supplies

Tools:

  • Baby Lock sewing and embroidery machine
  • LetterWorks III from Designer’s Gallery

Steps:

  1. Open the program by clicking on the LetterWorks III icon on the desktop.

  2. To place the hoop on the workspace click on menu View and click on Select Hoop. Select the 200mm x 300mm hoop. Click OK.

  3. Click on the Grid icon to place the grid on the workspace.

  4. Click on the Text icon on the left toolbar. Left click anywhere on the workspace to open the Properties field.

  5. Type in the phrase using the same number of words per line as follows.

    “Babies are angels that fly to the earth one look in their eyes and we’re never the same. They’re part of us now and that part has a name.”

    Baby’s Name_____ Baptized Date____

    After each line click on the enter key and after the last word enter twice and type in the babies name on the next line. Click on enter and type in the Baptized Date on the last line.

  6. In the Properties field click on the down arrow and choose the Calligraphy font from the list.

  7. Change the Height to 14.0mm.

  8. Set the Line Spacing to 35.

  9. Set the Width to 90%.

  10. Set the Width to 90%.

  11. Click on the ABC tool in the Properties and the program will do a spell check to be sure that all of your words is spelled correctly.

    After it runs a dialog will be displayed to confirm that it is complete. If any words are incorrect they will turn red. Correct the word(s) at this time. Repeat the spell check by clicking on the tool again until all words have been changed.

  12. Click on Apply.

  13. Click on Print Preview and follow the prompts to print out a template of the design.

  14. Click on File Save As and save as a Working File format (.blf). Then save as a .pes file to the media device that your embroidery machine will read.

  15. Hoop the stabilizer and spray with the temporary spray adhesive.

  16. Determine the placement of the design on the fabric and pin the template to the blanket.

  17. Place the blanket in the hoop and finger press smooth.

  18. Cut another piece of the Hydro-Melt and place on the topside of the hoop. This action will assure that the stitches will not sink into the fleece and be hidden.

  19. With the lettering design merged onto the embroidery machine’s workspace embroider the design using the thread color of your choice.

  20. Gently tear away as much of the Hydro-Melt as possible.

    You can also spray with water to remove the remaining stabilizer or wash the blanket using a gentle cycle in the washing machine.

  21. Place the grosgrain ribbon around the outer seam line on the blanket and at each of the corners form a 45̊ angle.

    Using the Edge Joining Foot stitch close to the inner and outer edges.
