Sewing Instructions

  1. Set up serger for a 4-Thread Overlock Stitch Width at “M” Stitch Length at 3 knife unlocked Aerolock Black Serger thread in upper and lower looper O1 and O2 needles. You are going to sew the raw edges in the steps below with the knife just barely touching the fabric; this will give you a perfect quarter inch seam. Attach Open Toe Serger Foot.
  2. Begin by serging the lining first. Align the square at one end of the rectangle right sides together and serge from the corner to just within a quarter inch of the end of the square. Lift presser foot turn fabric so that you can serge off.
  3. Align the next side of the square with the rectangle of fabric pulling out the fabric at the corner where the previous serging ended and serge down the next side of the square/rectangles as before.
  4. Repeat this process until you return back to your starting point; line up the side seam and serge. Set lining aside for now.
  5. Now we are going to layer the outer fabric pieces with the batting pieces. Place batting to wrong side of fabric; use spray adhesive or fabric glue to hold in place.
  6. Repeat the same steps as for the lining adding the base square to the bottom of the rectangle.
  7. Turn outer fabric unit so that the batting is on the inside. Turn lining so that right sided of lining is on the inside. Insert lining into outer fabric unit aligning the four corners. Align the top edges of outer unit and lining wonder clip around every 4 inches.
  8. Setup your serger for a modified 3-thread rolled hem as follows: A. Stitch width 7.5 stitch length at rolled 1 stitch selector at D 01 needle. B. Thread lower looper and 01 needle with Madeira Aerolock serger thread. C. Thread upper looper with Madeira Glamour No. 12 Metallic thread.
  9. Raise presser foot insert clipped fabric layers under foot with the lining side up against knife. Begin serging around raw edges of plant cozy removing clips before they touch the foot.
  10. When you approach the starting point line up the 01 needle with the corresponding red mark on the foot (2nd mark from the rightmost edge of the foot). Serge over the previous line of stitching appx. .25” raise presser foot turn fabric and then serge off.
  11. Apply Fray Check or Fray Block to overlap and let dry then clip off excess thread.
  12. Turn down the rim of Plant Cozy to desired height and your new Plant Cozy is complete!
