Project Serger- Made Reversible Dog Bandana

Serge your puppy a cute reversible bandana using a 3-thread stitch and Madeira’s Aeroflock thread. You can also celebrate different holidays by using seasonal print fabrics. Download printable instructions.

Materials:

  • 1 Spool of Madeira Aerolock serger thread to match fabrics
  • 2 Spools of Madeira Aeroflock serger thead to match fabrics
  • 1/4 -1/2 yard of cotton print fabric – print 1
  • 1/4 -1/2 yard of cotton print fabric – print 2
  • Tape Measure
  • Marking Pen or chalk
  • Rotary Cutter, mat and ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pins *Optional

Steps:

  1. Measure your dog’s neck add 6” to 8” to this measurement to have enough room to tie the bandana.

  2. Measure from the dog’s neck down the back to how long you want the bandana tie to be.

  3. Using the marking pen or chalk and the ruler draw a triangle using the neck measurement and the back length measurement.

  4. Using the rotary cutter mat and ruler cut out a triangle of each fabric.

  5. Layer the fabrics wrong sides together, pinning if needed.

  6. Thread your serger for a 3-thread narrow stitch with a stich length of 1. The Aerolock is in the needle and the Aeroflock threads will be in the loopers.

    1. Refer to you machine’s instruction and reference manual for assistance threading.

  7. Remove the regular presser foot and attach the clear foot.

  8. Serge along each side of the triangle.

  9. Remember to remove the pins before it reaches the needle, if you opted to use pins to hold the fabrics together.

  10. Tie the bandana loosely around your dog’s neck.
