Testing Cosplay designs at Doll Size: Atticus Cole Waller

My favorite part about making for dolls is that I get to test out ideas before committing to the many yards of fabric to build an outfit for myself. In this project I am making a Cosplay for Vash from Trigun Stampede. If I'm satisfied with the fit at this scale, I'll proceed with the full-size Cosplay! For this project, I used the Baby Lock Accomplish straight-stitch machine and Celebrate serger.

I started with the bottom most layers, because this way I would also be creating the jacket pattern as well, knowing for the jacket I would make small adjustments like opening the collar and arm holes, adding length, and making it a little bigger around the chest. I have to admit, I did kind of go into this project a little blind. I find it enjoyable to mess around, try something I maybe wouldn’t try, and make mistakes. And with a doll the mistakes are very low stakes. One of my experiments was adding this black lace to the black pants and shirt. I love how it turned out!

A tip I learned making doll clothes is to add sleeves at this stage of the process, this way you close the sleeve up in the same line you close your side seams!

The first drape on the doll  to see it coming together is so exciting!

I moved through this build pretty quickly. I had practically a finished outfit in one day's time. I added these little ribbons that have the text ‘nice’ written on them as an homage to Japanese tech wear and the strappy look to Vashe’s original Manga design.

After hemming, wig styling and building the final armor piece from a material called Worbla, we have a finished little outfit for my doll inspired by the character Vash from Trigun Stemede! And I am ready to dive into building this for myself so I can twin with him! Check out little Vash in action below.

Atticus never ceases to inspire us to create art influenced by our favorite characters. If you'd like to see more of their work, follow along HERE!
